Japanese Cooking Lessons

Do you enjoy cooking and are you looking for a new culinary challenge? Get your friends together and come and join me for a cooking lesson where you will become the one to impress your family and friends!

Lessons take place at my house and all ingredients and utensils needed are provided. You will enjoy eating what you have made at the end of your lesson and there will be plenty more to take home.

1. Role Your Sushi Lesson

Have you ever bought rolled sushi “maki” from a supermarket? (maki actually means “to role” in Japanese)

It’s not difficult to make your own once you know how!

During this 3 hour lesson we will be really hands on and also gain knowledge on different ways to source fresh sushi grade fish and how to prepare the cuts fit for making sushi. And then, we will make 3 types of popular sushi such as hoso maki (thin roll), ura maki (inside out rolled) and nigiri (fresh fish placed on top of small amount of rice).

We will start the lesson by preparing the sushi rice which is different from just plain cooked rice. There are hints and tips at every stage; how best to lay rice on the nori seaweed, what to choose as fillings and how to place them, where your fingers should go when you start rolling etc. etc.  Once you have learned these techniques it will be a breeze to make your own sushi at home for that special occasion!

It may surprise you to learn that sushi is not only for fish lovers. Fillings of sushi can be very flexible and there are recipes for beef and pork as well so we can discuss what range of fillings you would like to try and I will do my best to meet your request.

Cost: 3 hrs lesson, £60 per person

2.Japanese Street Food Lesson

Becoming so so popular in UK, you can’t ignore the Japanese “comfort food” when talking about Japanese food. In this course, we will cook more familiar dishes such as Pork Gyoza, Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki Salmon along with nutritous miso soup and a rice dish. You may have tasted these dishes before, but this time they are properly home made, so it’s bound to be much more delicious!!

Cost: 3 hrs lesson, £60 per person

3. Vegetarian/Vegan:

This course will focus on soy based ingredients one of which is tofu. Tofu in UK is so under rated, so I am on a mission to give it a status which it deserves!  Tofu is a very versatile ingredient and we will prepare a “Soy four ways”. Or, we can discuss your favourite type of food and discuss what to make together!

Cost: 3 hrs lesson, £60 per person
